Do not listen to anyone who tells you to drink Natural Ice. These people do not have your best interests in mind.
Maybe it's the beer snob in me talking, but I'm pretty sure darker beers are more palatable for the new drinker than skunky US megabrews. If there's a brewery in your town, go there and try their stout or red. As far as beers you can get in the store pretty much anywhere, try Newcastle.
When I started drinking, I was introduced to beer via the halfway house of hard apple cider. I can't drink more than a couple Woodchuck hard ciders anymore before I get sick of 'em, but back in the day I loved the stuff. They're beerlike, but sweet and zesty. |
Totally agree. My first complete beer was Guinness. I'm still fairly new in the world of beer, but I do definitely prefer darker brews to lighter, it's more of a shock but overall the experience feels much more pleasant. I'm a weird one though since all of my college friends drink slightly more expensive beer... but I don't know anyone who is a ridiculously heavy drinker either. And if we set out to get drunk, we stick to hard liquor. (I also dig Woodchuck~) Personal favorite at the moment is Magic Hat #9, but that's from Vermont I think? Not sure how it's available nationally. _________________

Old Style is my default bar beer. Then again, your selection of beers varies by location. Living in the upper midwest means all the Millwaukee brews are always in stock. |

ARGH. Milwaukee's Best is in the Natty Lite/Icehouse circle of beers. I would only drink The Beast if the only alternative was Budweiser. No, fuck that. I would just not drink. |

For a couple months now I've been on a standard of only drinking local (Michigan-brewed) beers. This past weekend was the Michigan Summer Beer Festival, and it was awesome! Drinking during the day is a strange animal... it's difficult to get past buzzed without feeling really sick and tired. It didn't help that I was trying a whole bunch of different styles (especially strange, sweet brews) that I normally wouldn't drink, and didn't exceptionally like. It was still a great experience, and it affirmed that I know what I like (ambers and pale ales.) Drink local! _________________ here comes the big ideas again, just like they did before and then,

ok, mom is in a home and she wants out. REMEMBER that I truly tried to care for her on my own, but got burned out. Mom is in a state of dementia. It is sad to see her in the home. _________________ MY BARF is TASTIER than Yours!!!
