"Crash" is being turned into a TV series that will likely begin airing next year.

The film's producer Cathy Schulman says, "I hope it will air in the next year. The actors from the film will show up. Don Cheadle is a producer and will also be on at least a few episodes. We'll see about everyone else."

"Crash" won the Academy Award for Best Picture this year.

thank god. if they hadn't turned this into a t.v. show, how would I get my weekly reminder that there is racism in the world?

Black people suck.
Women suck.
Hispanics suck.
Asian women are hot.
And I hate the polish.

And Ludacris saying "china men". I need to hear him say that atleast once every 5 hours.

Y'know, all they have to do to combat racism is to make characters whose personalities aren't stereotypes. Y'know, stop caring about race. That's just another thing that holds us back.

Frankly, I think a Crash TV show may be what our society needs right now.

Why? Well, for a couple of reasons.

First off: Current "anti-racism" ain't working. Having a token Latin person on a mostly-white sitcom isn't combatting racism, since that character is usually written to be a barrio-talking Beaner Sanchez anyway. All the TV shows they're trying to stuff into prime time with all-black casts (supposedly by black people, for black people) aren't combatting racism, because they still tend to portray black people being idiots but "making up for it" with attitude and make fun of characters who have any brains.

My favorites are the programs that try to combat racism by featuring "minority" characters as somehow having the most wisdom, or the most integrity, or just being the greatest person ever: What I've heard referred to as the "magic negro".

Secondly: It needs to be made part of the public conciousness that being part of an abused minority does not make you an angel. That was one of the key things that I loved about Crash. It showed people from all over the genetic map being victims and perpetrators of discrimination. Some of the victims in the movie even seem to deserve the bad things that happen to them, but it's always ironic that they seem to be repaid for racism with racially-motivated crimes.

as if any racist will watch a full hour of a show that says "your beliefs are wrong"

also, Crash wasn't necissarily saying that "these people aren't stereotypes", but more of "please recognize that racism exists in the world".

And I think everyone knows that. Neutral

I fail to see how this is going to work. It was a great movie. Why do they have to ruin it, by trying to make a tv show of it.

I get it. We're all too racist for our own good.

Enough, already.

Dude, read what I wrote up there. It's good stuff. It'll clue you into the fact that Crash was about something a little less boneheaded than a simple "OMG racism!!!!111"
