Really? If you actually read the thread rather than playing the role of El Generico (who is an awesome wrestler, by the way) you'd notice that all of the conflict is over.

The only threads I've personally gotten rid of have been about... music trading. And that's just in the interest of -me- not getting sued. As for getting rid of users, also a safety measure. Though I admit it's not as likely to happen here as some other places, forum users have been known to attack/DoS/spam-flood/do-other-things-that-may-cost-me-time-and/or-money to the forum where this shit goes down. Is it rational? Hell no. Does it happen? Hell yes. So I'd rather be rid of people before anything escalates to that point... Though I do agree, some of the locked/deleted stuff wasn't really a problem at all. DJ sort've went on a moderation crusade when he was voted mod, but I think he's probably over it now...*cough*
If people -really- had an interest in solving it themselves, they -would- do it in PM. The only reason to do it on the forum in the first place is to cause a scene. THAT'S WHY IT'S TROLLING/FLAMING/BAITING, AND NOT A NORMAL ARGUMENT. You might say the PM thing never happens, and it might be true -here-. But you also need to think about -why- it's true. Hint: there's no interest in solving the problems in some people's minds, only how to stir them up.
PS: PMs work on other forums, and sometimes it doesn't even take a mod to point out that the forum can send PMs... I wonder why that doesn't wo.......oh yeah, nevermind. _________________

Like I said before. When it takes place in public, that applies rules to the argument that keeps it from becoming entirely mindless personal attacks. Users will point out stupidity. With PMs, it can get infinitely stupid with no way to stop it. _________________ I'M A TARD |

And since it becomes entirely mindless personal attacks on the forum anyway, it gets locked or moved. Yup. Problem -so- solved. 'Cause the flamers/trollers/baiters are gonna pay any attention to anyone except their current target. If you take it into PM and it turns into a harrasment fest, guess what? You can send -me- a PM. It's not like I can't look at the PMs if somebody asks me to. What if it's two flamers in a PM duke-it-out-insult-fest and they don't want to call in an admin? Nobody should care. At least it'll keep them from flaming up the forum. _________________

Nobody HAS to endure it. They can read another topic, or not read the post. It's not like flaming causes physical damage to the board or its posters.
Rather than confine it to PM where there can be no public moderation (or humiliation, since that can be a device to make stupid people stop saying stupid things) why not make a section of the forums for disputes. That way noone can claim they're bothered by unwanted flaming, but at the same time disputes can be accessed by anyone who wants to. I know you guys probably won't go for the idea, but there's no logical reason not to.
And I know you won't go for this, but I'd be willing to co-mod (let's say with President Logan since I get into disputes with him all the time, I'd say that keeps it balanced).
At least let's have a trial period with this idea because I think it could come in real handy and solve alot of problems like this one. _________________ I'M A TARD |

No. Take it to PM or AIM or MSNM or YIM or ICQ or IRC, just don't do it here.

Why should I not be surprised to see you give me a generic bullshit copout response rather than actually consider what I have to say. No, the problem is not solved. My fucking ass, it's solved. All you're out to do is sanitize the forum from negative thoughts, and it's bullshit, it's a copout, and it just breeds contempt for you, and between anyone who has a disagreement. _________________ I'M A TARD |

The former is completely acceptible.
The latter is absolutely reprehensible. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

Reprehensible. Exaggerating, much?
It's a fine line between the two. If a debate gets TOO out of hand, that's why we have mods. But the heavyhandedness that goes on with the disputes at the present will not work and only serves to make things worse _________________ I'M A TARD |

heavyhandedness?
We haven't done anything to you at all, 'cept lock the thread.
Heavyhandedness would be the banning of the lot of you.
Which will happen if you continue to flame. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck
