Eitan: Yeah, Mid-Atlantic is a cool place, what with Philly, Baltimore, and Richmond.
Try to actually hang out in DC, though. Trust me, Portland's a lot cooler than DC. |

Here we go:
My only qualms would be that Maryland and Delaware are not southern states. In my mind, the thing that really makes a state "southern" is whether or not it seceded from the Union back in the 1860s. Delaware and Maryland did not, and Missouri is sort of contentious in that regard. |

I think one of the more popular definitions is if it's south of the Mason-Dixon line, hence "Dixie."

I think we're even.  I was thoroughly unimpressed the last time I went to Ann Arbor, and I thought my cousins had given me a pretty thorough tour. Maybe it's gotten better since then? Dunno.

West Virginia is West Virginia because those counties rejoined the Union, and Maryland was a slave state that almost seceded, but the feds shut any attempt down quick because of DC's geography. Of course, culturally, I'd say that Maryland and Delaware are Mid-Atlantic states. The US is way more diverse than that map lets on, anyway. I have to go to work now, but I'm going to draw a better regional map tonight. |

I'm aware of that, and on twelfth listening today I have concluded that Waiter: "You Vultures!" is better by a fair margin. But CM is one of my favorite albums this year regardless.
