As anyone that reads my Blurty would know, I hadn't been liking my job as of late. And anyone who reads my LiveJournal would know that I quit yesterday. Well, today I recieved a call from the manager, and she was talking to me about what had happened, and amidst the conversation, she mentions that I had said "I loathe my job" on my website. I was taken aback by this; partly because I didn't remember saying it, but mainly because it seemed strange that they would be browsing my personal websites. When I asked her about it, she mentioned my MySpace page. I told her that I didn't really hate the job that much, it just wasn't working out for me, and that I was just going through a tough time, and was sticking with the job as long as I did because I needed the money. I didn't tell her what I was really thinking.
First of all, I never gave them any information regarding any of my personal websites; MySpace or otherwise. I don't even think I gave them my e-mail address. Secondly, she mentioned my MySpace page, but the site I had written that I "loathed my job" was my Blurty, which is linked on my MySpace. So, this means that not only did they track me down via MySpace, but then followed up on links to my personal online journal/journals. And, I had only posted that recently, so it means they only went looking when they knew I was considering quitting, or even after I had already quit.
So yeah, I had heard about employers doing this, but never imagined it would happen to me. What are your thoughts? _________________ here comes the big ideas again, just like they did before and then,

That's a little weird. But since you've already quit, I wouldn't worry much about it. I guess if my employer did that, I'd ask them not to in the future. Mixing work and social life like that is kinda awkward. _________________ Homsars Girl n. a bagpipe bent on engulfing the world in a mix of pepper and ketchup.

I've heard a lot about potential employers looking up your facebook and myspace to see what kind of person you are. You could have a spotless resume but if you have pictures of you looking all trashed up there, they're probably not going to like that.
There have been people fired because of blogs and whatnot too.
It would be nice to bitch in private. _________________

If you don't want others reading it, then don't put it where people can. DUH. _________________

Oh, I do realize that.
But really, it's kind of discomforting to think that complaining about your day at work or whatever may put your job in jeopardy. even if it is on a public blog.
And I don't like the feeling of being tracked. _________________

that's one of the many reasons I don't do Myspace, Livejournal or those. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

Yeah, none of my friends have blurty accounts, and I've never liked the idea of friend's only journals because I don't like to hide things from the people that might be browsing my journal... I just never thought an employer would be one to go snooping. _________________ here comes the big ideas again, just like they did before and then,

employers are busybodies and want to hire the best...
so take your livejournal, take your myspace, take your blurty...
and lie.
Make yourself out to be the best employee ever. See how far back your employers will delve into the posts, hmm? _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck

Ray, have you ever done a google search on your name?
Time for you to check on what the employers will see. _________________ Come into my den let me hear you cluck
